A small favor...

I have a small favor to ask from you dear friends & family (and friends of friends & family who are addicted to blog surfing...you know who you are). I have joined a book club that I am absolutely loving.  We have read Goose Girl and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society (or something like that).  Both great books.  I'm supposed to choose a book for January and wanted your input.

I'm looking for something that a) Invokes Gratitude and/or b) Inspires.  So all you well-read intellectuals that I dearly trust could you please send me your favorite reads that fit the above criteria.  Biographies, non-fiction, fiction, you name it.  Can't wait to hear from you!

There is a good chance you've already read it but I was in a book club a couple years back and one of the books we read was "The Hiding Place" by Corrie Ten Boom (I think that's the correct name). I know it is a pretty common book but I had never read it and was glad that I was given the opportunity. Very inspiring!

I was also going to tell you to read THE HIDING PLACE. One of my favorites. 3 other favs are....THESE IS MY WORDS, A THOUSAND SPLENDID SUNS, or KITE RUNNER.

Good luck choosing.

First of all, thanks for the thoughtful comment on my blog. What an amazing friend you are and always have been.

I agree that "The Hiding Place" is a great suggestion for the criteria that you gave. Every book club should read it at least once. It is about a concentration-camp survivor. Another less-read book about the holocaust that I also love is called "Man's Search for Meaning" by Victor Frankl. Our book club did it last month. It is a shorter read than "The Hiding Place," and will definitely leave you with a feeling of gratitude.

Have you already read, "The Last Lecture?" It is about a professor who has terminal cancer and decides to share what he's learned from his life in one last lecture at a college. It is a quick-read, but lends itself well to discussion.

I've had the book,"Left to Tell" suggested to me a few times in the last few months. I'm hoping to read it soon.

P.S. I just finished reading "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" and I loved it!!! What did you think? Our book club is doing "The Goose Girl" next month......

Anything by Mitch Albom is good (Tuesday's with Morrie, Five People you meet when you get to heaven)), The Peacegiver by James Ferrell,
Roll of thunder Hear my Cry, A Distant Prayer BY Jerry Borrowman, The Last Lecture is good...Pres. Hinkley's Bio- a little long though.
To Draw closer to God By: Henry B. Eyring
But the work that has inspired me since 7th grade is To Kill A Mockingbird. Harper Lee only rote this one work and it was perfect. Atticus Finch is what evey man wishes he could be and often are without knowing it. Scout is who I wish I was when I was a child and Boo Radley helps you to realize that all too often we judge without knowing the circumstances. (DANG I need to re-read this book!)
